Keep The Cruise

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who kept repeating things you already knew over and over again?  Or paying attention to a preacher during the service who kept repeating the same old jokes for a hundred times? I am sure you have, and it is freaking annoying. You get that urge to say “Dude, tell me something I don’t know!”.

I think there are many teachers, lecturers and preachers that don’t keep up with the latest updates in certain area that they once studied for…

What I’m saying here is, you need to tell your audience something that they don’t know. If you keep repeating trivial stuff, or stuff that other most people or medias have already discussed far and wide, you will bore the heck out of everyone.

It might appear as common sense that most of us get lazy sooner or later, and we stop trying to learn new things and skills.  For most people this happens once they get out of university and start working a stable job. I have been there myself, and the feeling is that you already have had your share of studying and learning, and that now you just need to apply it all.

If you follow that logic for a long time, you will probably find yourself not too happy about your professional situation. There are many reasons to always be learning new things. First of all it will make you a more versatile person, as you never know what kind of projects you will be working on the next year or the next decade.

Secondly, the more skills you have mastered, the easier and faster it will be to learn new ones. It is like learning new languages, once you speak three or four it becomes really easy to learn a new one. I know how hard it is to come up with new and interesting things all the time. But hey, that is what is going to make a difference, so we might as well strive for it. Keep the cruise...
